International Curators' Talk Seies 2009: Public Lecture-Guo Xiaoyan

Para/Site Art Space is honored to present a Public Lecture by Guo Xiaoyan, Chief curator of Ullens Center for Contemporary Art.

 

Guo is going to introduce the current situation and exploration of various non-profit art spaces in China today—Shanghai Zendai MoMA, Beijing Today Art Museum and Long March Project. She will explain their models of running, exhibitions, education and cultural programs, site commissions, limited editions and store, membership system, sponsorship and cultural features. She will also talk about their contributions to the Chinese contemporary art scene, their relationship with artists, audience, Government and cooperates as well as the opportunities and challenges that they have to face.

 

Guo Xiaoyan has been the Chief Curator of Ullens Center for Contemporary Art since 2007. She was the Vice Dean of Guangzhou Triennial Office in Guangdong Museum of Art, curator of Guangdong Museum of Art. During 1999 – 2002, she took part in the founding and organizing work of Upriver Gallery which was the first private-owned gallery in China.

 

Guo has been curating and organizing series of exhibition projects as well as academic symposiums. She was the curator of exhibitions such as Pictures on the Earth – Photograph by Wim Wenders, Unfinished-Architectures by ISOZAKI Arata, Architectures in Post-plan Time-Dialogue with ISOZAKI Arata Seminar, Dijon-Shanghai-Guangzhou: Solo Exhibition of Yan Peiming, Liu Xiaodong: Painting from Life (Solo Exhibition of Liu Xiaodong), City-Net Asia (China Pavilion) in Seoul Museum of Art. She also co-curated exhibitions such as 2nd Guangzhou Triennial, D-Labs, Exhibition Series about Artistic Phenomena and Situations since 1985, From Polar Region to Tie Xi Qu: Contemporary Art Exhibition in Northeast China, Aftershock-Contemporary British Art 1990-2006, Wu Shanzhuan: Red Humour International, Our Future: The Guy & Myriam Ullens Foundation Collection. She was also the research curator of 3rd Guangzhou Triennial.
