Leung Mee Ping is a Hong Kong based artist as well as one of the founders of Para Site. Her studies have taken her from France to America then to Hong Kong, Leung’s conceptual perspective is based on her consideration of the importance of creativity originating from daily culture. Her practice spans installation, mix-media, public art and community art. Through research-based practices, the artist experiments with interaction and integration; her works concern ethics, community and memories of the human living situation, which is closely intertwined with her theoretical research area of visual culture and globalization. She is assistant professor of art creativity at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University. Her recent exhibitions including, Pearl River Delta Series 1: Made in Hong Kong (Osage Hong Kong, 2014), The 9th Busan International Video Festival (Busan, Korea, 2013), Mobile M+: Yau Ma Tie (M+, Museum of Visual Culture, Hong Kong, 2012)

Para Site’s Sheela Gowda is the artist’s first solo exhibition in East Asia. On view through July 19th, the exhibition incorporates a selection of existing works from various moments of the artist’s practice, alongside four major new installation works. Some of these were inspired by her research trip to Hong Kong earlier this year. The exhibition of this powerful and highly original artist is an expression of Para Site’s longstanding exploration of art’s different languages in engaging with our world.
