The way we experience our lives are increasingly conditioned and catechized by the bulk of signs that dominate our daily lives. line feed, curated for Asian Traffic in Hong Kong, is a reflection on the mechanisms of signage, taking them out of their usual surroundings, (twisting and) misusing them in order to get a better comprehension of how they function in the contemporary world. In computer language, 'line feed' is a command that advances paper in a printer for the next line. (Taking cues from local signage,) the four artists, Kwan Sheung Chi, Magdalen Wong, Pak Sheung Chuen and Yuk King Tan, through sound, sculpture, photography and video, diffuses familiar signs and text, suggests alternative ways to approach, understand and intercept the overload of information and directions that guide us. The long corridor acts as a route where visitors take a flaneurie through the awkward exhibition space, shifting between busy distractions from the window view and attention the works demand, to provoke a reflexive criticism of urban life.
